VOTY: The Introduction

VOTY. I bet you think this is going to be some political post. Wrong! I hereby begin a blog series I shall call VOTY: Victory Over the Yard.

See, my impression of yardwork in my life so far has been… unfavorable. Perhaps this enmity between me and yardwork began with the first house in which Dream and I resided. It was a rental house, and we were glad for it, but taking care of the surroundings was horrendous. There was a plethora of trees with beautiful flowers ...

... which then dropped the flowers and leaves everywhere ...

... but only after shading the grass to death. I could spend a whole Saturday doing yardwork and have it look just the same in a couple weeks. I just couldn't win!

Patchy GrassBut after a year of living in our new house, I have started to realize that victory might actually be feasible. With a bit of knowledge and praxis, I might just be able to kill those weeds, build up that grass, and create something enjoyable—even with less regular work than I am doing now. Some hotspots I'd like to take care of are the patchy grass (right), our Bed of Death (below), and the feeble growth along the sides of the house (below right).

I am therefore starting this series to journal my progress. Not only will it be a good history for me and my family, but hopefully I can gain some tips (or encouragement!) from you readers and just maybe I can inspire some other projects in God's creation!
Soli Deo Gloria!
